Incompetence should be measured over time

Who is the most incompetent Labour minister? asks Iain. That's a tough one, they've all been pretty shocking in their own little ways. The problem of course is distinguishing between sheer incompetence and sleazy tales. Poor old Ruth Kelly does seem quite out of her depth, and there was of course Estelle Morris who conceded herself that she was not up to the job (a rare moment of honesty).

Surely though John Reid has to take the prize? After all, he's managed to float around Whitehall over the past ten years leaving departments in bigger messes than when he was brought in to "fix" them. John Harvey-Jones he clearly ain't!

They are all unfit for purpose but Prescott's longevity must put him in the frame too. The British public labour under an education minister who left school at 16, a provincial solicitor in charge of our armed forces, the most unpopular health minister ever, a revolving door at the Home Office and a Minister without portfolio... need I go on.

Interesting the way John Reid suddenly, and so meekly, decided to leave for the back benches. Just when he had begun the break up of his latest department.
I wonder what dark secret GB had over him?
I agree he should be number one on the list. But there has been so many of them!

If Prescott had been let near a portfolio for any length of time, it might have been a fair fight between Reid and him.

And yet even the worst aren't as bad as those lurking in opposition.

Completely with you Dizzy as yet another Home Office scandal emerges. He said his department wasn't fit for purpose, split it in half to halve the chances of blaming him for things and then runs off before all the problems emerge

I see a report in today's Mail that Ruth kelly is being lined up to take the chop for the HIPS fiasco.
Better if the organ grinder (Yvette Cooper) was shot instead of the monkey.
But of course the organ grinder's husband is a very good friend of ...

Let's do most incompetent Tory Ministers of the last ten years next! What? there have been NONE? How's that? their towering competence has been insufficient to interest the savvy electorate? They've lost three on the bounce you say? Incredible, amazing, what they need is a new leader who can get back to Tory values ... someone like David Davis. What's that you say? They've picked a Blair-lite? Shocking! Ten more years in the wilderness.
