Is it just me or does this whole Shannon Matthews abduction thing have a funny smell to it? We now have two further arrests, the mother of the step-father and another woman. The thing is, when they found Shannon it was just before I went off snowboarding. The only English paper we managed to find in Bulgaria was the News of the World that weekend and it carried a large interview and report on the news that she had been found.
Something that jumped out of the report was where Shannon's mother, upon coming out of the house after having seen her daughter, had a big grin on her face (understandable) and then alleged winked at her friend/family. That always seemed to me and my mate and really odd. When you add in the comments made during the search that not as much attention was being given to Shannon's disappearance as Madeline McCann because she was only working class, it all just seemed a bit weird.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not making any direct allegations against anyone, I just wouldn't be surprised if over the next week there were not some more very bizarre twists to the case. I can't put my finger on it, but there's just a funny smell about the whole thing.
I think most of us thought that Dizzy once it became clear that she had been found so near to her home, even before we knew that the man charged was a relative. I just hope the little girl has a decent future, whether or not that means returning to her family.
Perhaps a chance to make money from a 'Find Shannon' fund??
From the out set I did not accept the McCanns line that Madeleine had been abducted.
Similarly, I suspected there was more to the Shannon Matthews case than met the eye. My suspicion was raised even more when the police did not immediately reunite Shannon with her family.
Could it be that there was a poor attempt to emulate the McCanns success at setting up a fund to milk?
"I just hope the little girl has a decent future, whether or not that means returning to her family."
Most likely it means 'not'...
Firstly its seems clear to me that Madelaine HAD been abducted and her famuily were faced with Portugese police incompetence - maybe worse.
The Shannon affair will probably reveal the shify, moronic and downright decrepit 'goings on' and lifestyle of the socialist created and sustained underclass.
If correct it ultimately ought to rid us of any sense of moral superiority we might have about ourselves.
Canvas - Given up pushing your pin-up boy Obama as he strides deeper and deeper into the merde?
Jail Axe - Ooops! - House Lawyer, your opinions are tainted by your history. Could it be there is a poor attempt to milk the "manslaughter" with an axe of an old lady, to milk the notoriety you have so industriously tried to create?
I didn't pay attention to the McCann story and I've paid even less attention to the Shannon story. The media (and public) fascination with these stories is nothing more than sick twisted voyeurism. It disgusts me listening to people at work discussing how the parent look a bit dodgy or that families don't look upset enough etc. etc. etc. You don't know these people, you don't know anything about their lives and frankly there is no reason why you should. It's a family going through a private and emotional tragedy and the bored nosey gossips of this world should keep their sticky beaks out.
You are right. I was startled, during a BBC radio report on the child's much-delayed (why?) reunion with her mother, to hear the anchor expressly asking the on-the-spot reporter whether the mother was being allowed physical contact with her daughter. Most peculiar. People obviously (to me) know much that they are not allowed to discuss on air.
Verity - you seem to want to bring Obama into to every blog and post.
It is obvious that Barack Obama is going to be the next President of the USA - November can;t come soon enough.
Hillary is toast and McCain is far too old and feeble - and he lives in the past. Ready for change? It's coming! Go Obama.
Canvas - No. Only when I see your name.
Your dreamboat wouldn't be the first Dem conman and wide boy in the White House. One only has to hark back to the last Dem president.
Obama's a nasty piece of work. Tony Blair's American doppelganger. He won't slither in, insh'allah!
Verity, your dreamboat, George Bush, has been an absolute gem. The Republican Party are their own worst enemy - and Obama is going to sort out their mess.
Wake up and smell the coffee :)
"It disgusts me listening to people at work discussing how the parent look a bit dodgy or that families don't look upset enough etc. etc. etc. You don't know these people, you don't know anything about their lives..."
Actualy, I think we can glean quite a lot about their lives, and lifestyles, from the reports so far.
Juliam - I hope you feel as charitable if you ever end up the subject of a media report
