The Sarkozy Video

Complete with attempts at English that are far better than my attempts at French.

I've commented on other blogs showing this silly video that I scent some vicious bad-loser lefties behind this.

Sarkozy is a teetotaller. Why would he lie about it? Everyone in France drinks. There is no particular caché in being TT in France.

His first words into the mike were, "Please forgive me for being late." Obviously, he was running late from his last appointment, he knew there was a roomful of people waiting for him, he ran from his car up the stairs and raced along the corridor and turned up looking like exactly what he was: a middle aged man out of puff.

That whole video with the cans of beer at the opening is mean-spirited, adolescent (the left never leaves its adolescence and grows up) and malicious.

Look for more things like this. I hadn't realised they hated Sarkozy that much. A very good sign! They must fear his strength!

And interesting, is it not, that it's only being shown in Belgium? The French broadcast industry knows better that Sarkozy is not a drinker.

I don;t doubt that political enemies did the translation etc, but I also don't doubt that he was acting very strange as well and not in character as well. As fr the French tv not showing it that doesn't imply they don't believe he wasn't drunk at all. They may just be being reverential to the new head of state.

I actually think your partisanship on this is as bad as the lefties that made their gags in the video. Clearly he's not normal in the video.

Dizzy - I haven't seen him on TV often enough to know what is normal for him. He was out of breath. The first thing he did was apologise for being late.

Do you, and others, really think that a man who ran such a disciplined campaign over a long period of time, and performed well and in a quick thinking manner in all his interviews over the last year or so, is so undisciplined?

If he were suddenly going to develop a taste for alcohol, don't you think he'd do it on a Sunday afternoon, instead of suicidally before addressing a public meeting?

I do take your point about French TV. They are overly deferential to politicians. But this video was obviously cobbled up by someone, fast, because it is terribly amateurish and studentish. Who would wish to do this? Only one set of people: the left.

If you had seen such an amateurish, plainly ridiculous video of Margaret Thatcher a month into her premiership, who would you suspect?

This tells me that Sarkozy is going to have a bumpy ride because the toxic left will never admit that they lost the election. A bit like Al Gore in that respect.

Belgian TV have issued an apology for suggesting he was drunk and have retracted what they said about him.

Thank God, Norfolk Blogger! I thought I was going to have to listen to the whole speech to continue arguing for him!

I cannot even stand listening to political speeches in English - never mind the strain of listening to one in French.

I now consider myself excused. Grâce à vous!
