Elf in charge of road side speed trap

It appears that a deputy from Orange County Police Department is dressing up as one of Father Christmas's elfs whilst on duty running a speed trap.

Apparently, thanks to the fact that decoys like this are allowed in the US, he's issued 150 tickets in 2 hours. More pictures here.

Being British I prefer elves as plural

I mulled over that one actually. The sentence says "one of" so I thought it wouldn't make logical sense to refer to plural "elves" when I was quite specifically referring to just one. Grammatically you are probably correct, but it seems counter-intuitive.

Forgive me for this but I feel the need to say it. Apart from issuing tickets to speeders, does he also keep an eye out for ho-ho-hoes ?

In New Zealand the rozzers are using Ice Cream Vans as decoys. They were only found out when little kids were dissapointed to find a burly cop with no ice cream

At least this guy is out in the open but over here in the fSU, they hide behind buildings and spring out at you, vigorously waving black and white batons then falling over on the ice.
