A new campaign launched the other day which I am pleased and proud to be a supporter of. It's called Amend the Smoking Ban and has been launched by a coalition including consumers' rights organisation Forest, the liberal think tank Progressive Vision, the Adam Smith Institute, and the Manifesto Club. The basic premise is this. Repealing the smoking ban is never going to happen, but it is far too arbitrary and ought to be amended so that individuals who choose to can go somewhere, like there pubs and clubs, and still have a means to smoke that doesn't mean they have to go outside.
The pub trade is dying out these days in terms of "regulars" because of the ban, and its certainly not unworthy to campaign for the anally retentive rules to be amended in a way that protects individual liberty and choice.
