Blair says Brown's economic miracle was all luck

Brilliant and definite candidate for quote of the year over at the Adam Smith Institute. It appears that Blair, whilst on the lecture circuit in the US has finally admitted what we all knew anyway telling a lecture hall at Yale University,
It is true that we had ten years of record growth when I was prime minister. I have, unfortunately, come to the conclusion that it was luck.
A damning indictment of his sucessor's constant tub-thumping bullshit without a doubt.

Happy New Year, Dizzy.

Lord Mandy may well have forgiven Brown, but Bliar sure hasn't.

Brown can take some credit for the "record growth", but that is because he (a) encouraged so much debt, and (b) used public spending and PFI to prop up the economy. Hence the current "economic decline."

Luck, my arse.

Brown created the illusion of prosperity on the back of massive borrowing.

Cunt.

Too right it was luck!
I’m amazed that so many people actually believed Brown had some magic way with Britain’s finances & how so many others were happy to go along with the delusion, but then that strange man at no11 wasn’t seen that much, Britain was riding high & had no need to question him, & with super hero Tone at the helm what could go wrong?
Brown must have thought it was Christmas day every day for a while, I believe he thought Santa would keep on bringing the festive sprit for ever, sadly for Brown & us the magic of Christmas was found out!
Brown had to be told the truth that Santa wasn’t real & all the goodies he had been brought had to be paid for, Brown can’t handle the Santa illusion coming to an end & so is retreating to the land of make believe where debt & borrow are just a words that makes everything alright & a magic fairy turns all horrible words that people say about him into nice ones, the delusion, all is well, is kept in tack!

The financial market is its own master, it does what it wants & needs to do to survive, the capitalist beast is evolving at the moment & as much as Brown would like the Tories to tell him what he should do instead of saying NOTHING, there is no fix to the mess we are in.
A wise government looks after its pennies & manufacturing base, a wise government looks after the hard working people, etc!
Labour have loved doing SO MUCH for all & sundry all around the world but when we look at what Labour has really done for Britain & it’s hard working people, it isn’t a pretty picture, who'd stick with Labour? Who's helping us now?

The picture of Labours Britain in 2009 is all the wake up call anyone should need when being reminded of what a delusional, incompetent, self serving, lentil crunching, EU loving bunch of lefty trampy looking socialist’s we have desperately trying to look like they can run a country.

Happy new year all :o)

What, you mean it wasn't due to Prudence and her financial genius?

I hope DC & Co pick this up and shout it from the roof tops, that would really get on our glorious unelected Leader's tits, might just be the final push over the edge.
Then we could enjoy the spectacle of OGUL being led out of No. 10 by the gentlemen in white coats.
Anyway all the best for 2009 young dizzy.

Blair's luck is probably more to do with his good fortune that the dreadful misfit next door was too busy micromanaging irrelevant detail and destroying mobile phones to change the basis of the economy inherited from the Tories.

Ha ha, that is brilliant.
Never one for truth telling in office, but I've sort of grown to like TB after that quote! (only a little mind - and it'll not last.

I laughed so hard at that quote the first time I read it tea came out of my nose...

It'll be amusing to see if Blair becomes Brown's Howe.

Luck yes, and the economy they inherited from the Tories of course, Brown had F**k All to do with it, that's for sure!

so weak, Dizzy, so weak...

Nice quote ... except it's made up. There is no source for this other than the ASI blog.

Pathetic, even by your pitiful standards. Let's hope you see the light in 2009 and keep your gob shut.

It wasn't luck, Tony.

Big-time, fundamental economic policy has a results lag-time of 10 to 15 years. The wave you rode was Thatcher's.

By the same token, we'll all still be suffering the results of Brown's spell in power in 2025.

Happy new year Dizzy. And if you made any resolutions, just like Gordon Brown has found out - be careful what you wish for.

Can he REALLY have said that? Why has no newspaper picked it up? How will Brown spin it? Will Blair deny he said it?

Martin S said...

I wonder if Blair was baffled by Brown's use of economic jargon, so whenever Brown 'explained' how things were going, Blair's eyes glazed over and he merely nodded, not wanting to appear thick?

dizzy said...

Snooty, so made up that Blair's own office have confirmed that he said albeit saying he was joking? Pathetic leaping to assumptions there even by your pitiful standard. Prick.

Anonymous said...

So he was joking but you create a post based on the assumption that it was a serious 'admission'. Pathetic.

Face facts. Brown ran the economy much better than clowns like Lamont and Lawson. The principal reason the Major administration went into meltdown wasn't sleaze, it was the public's realisation that Tories didn't know how to run the economy any more. And they were right.

Hahahahaha go fuck yourself

Nice comeback, Dizzy! You got me there.

dizzy said...

Least I could do given you're piss poor backtracking. Would you like a pole sent through the post to help?

Anonymous said...

Snooty may be a prick but he has a bit of point on this one. You made it sound like Blair was seriously confessing something in order to stab Brown in the back when it turns out it wasn't really like that. Just makes you seem like, what's the word, oh yeah, a 'prick'.

Anonymous said...

I think you mean 'your' rather than 'you're'. Retard.

Anonymous said...

A 'damning indictment' but he said it as a joke? You are talking crap again. Why don't you stick to posting about computers? You don't want to keep making yourself look a fool, do you?

dizzy said...

I prefer dumbfuck to retard. It's less oppressive.

As for it being a "joke" one would have to hear the lecture itself to figure that out, and of course, the intepretation of political subtext in comments, why that is sooooooo unsual. Next you'll be saying I'm terribly biased on my website that is so openly biased in favour of my opinion.

"A 'damning indictment' but he said it as a joke? "

Correction: "A 'damning indictment' but he said he said it as a joke?"

For fucks sake, this is all rather funny, all of sudden a post from three days which linked to a quote and noted that the quote had a subtext and all of sudden every silly fucking anonymong is leaping on it. Telling. Very telling.

Blair didn't retract or "clarify" his joke and a lot of papers did cover it, I posted it at Guidos at least a week ago.

HOW DO YOU DO... THE ECONOMY

Spending culture

The continuing game theory culture of prediction, of desire, will and wants are still shitdiculous. The common individual can live roughly a 30,000%* percent more sustainable lifestyle if he didn't drink so much sugar coated s**t and instead got his food from the ground rather than the mish-mash-mush machine.

Fix stuff, open it up and poke, get a screwdriver and some chuddy and really fix that f**ker. Buying summat because it's the slightly better one that you’ve already got, with a new light on it, n one of the buttons is over there is so earnest in conformity. But that wouldn't keep the cogs of industry going, noo that wouldn't make economies grow and grow exponentially till they need to invent consumers and economies and solar systems to keep its expanding waistline from an earth saturating numerical shower. You ever been impaled by a two?
