The real reason Obama won!

You have to love a good conspiracy theory and this one is superb. The real reason Obama won is because he secretly used hypnosis to con everyone!

Tin foil beanie time methinks! *run away! run away!*

Let's have a look at who's behind it to be able to judge it's credibility. Oh wait, there's no institute or name attached, only this:

"You have been stopped by one anonymous patriot with a pure heart who is able to see you for who you really are. There are those more powerful than you, Obama, looking out for truth, justice, and the American way. As the words of my favorite song go,
“Sinnerman, where you gonna run to?” "

sounds familiar... "truth, justice and the American way"

Ah yes, that's how they describe Superman. Clearly this document forms part of a Kryptonite conspiracy to destabilise the human race.

(PS: the word verification is 'kounsmad' - It sure does, Blogger, it sure does!)

Interesting the way he mentions that the ideas are based on those of Milton Erickson... at the risk of being laughed at, you could look up "Milton H. Erickson" on wikipedia...

"Erickson believed that the unconscious mind was always listening, and that, whether or not the patient was in trance, suggestions could be made which would have a hypnotic influence, as long as those suggestions found some resonance at the unconscious level. The patient can be aware of this, or can be completely oblivious that something is happening. Erickson would see if the patient would respond to one or another kind of indirect suggestion, and allow the unconscious mind to actively participate in the therapeutic process. In this way, what seemed like a normal conversation might induce a hypnotic trance, or a therapeutic change in the subject. It should be noted that "[Erickson's] conception of the unconscious is definitely not the one held by Freud."[6]

Erickson was an irrepressible practical joker, and it was not uncommon for him to slip indirect suggestions into all kinds of situations, including in his own books, papers, lectures and seminars."

Milton once stopped his secretary from smoking by asking her to type of lists of seemingly randon words... he was quite a guy...

Makes yer fink dunnit?

Actually, although I only skimmed it, there doesn't seem to be anything particularly surprising there. Rhetoric has always used similar techniques to hypnosis.

And some rhetoric is closer to it than others. I remember reading a book by some psychologist bloke who'd done research into hypnosis, saying that evangelical preachers in particular use methods almost identical to hypnotic induction. (Yeah, I know; helpful citation there.)

So I don't think there's necessarily anything sinister to be drawn from the "revelation" that Obama's been doing the same. He probably isn't aware of it himself; he's just good at making speeches.

On the other hand, it's one reason I don't trust anyone who is.

Conspiracist - don't be so sceptical. People in post-stroke comas often remember hearing what friends and relatives say. I know from personal experience. Don't worry, I'm not offended. And though I heard and remember my wife and kids, friends, relatives etc. I never heard Barak Obama's cliche ridden motivational speaker style "rhetoric" though. If I had I might have told him "you're not exactly Cicero are you?"

Put the hypnotic suggestion together with the "time to celebrate?" Hammer and Sickle flag-waving and you got starting ingredients for a posthumous Philip K Dick novel ...
