Council Tax cut of 3% for third year running

Another year goes by and Hammersmith and Fulham Council show how it should be done by cutting Council Tax by 3% for the third year in a row and putting £145 back into the pockets of their residents.

Now, you'd expect the Labour Party locally to scream about cuts in services, which they will do with leaflets at Hammersmith Station and Barons Court (I work in the borough so I know), but H&F are still investing in schools, putting more police on the streets etc and lowering debt.

This is the sort of thing that really helps people out, and to be honest, perhaps it will come down to local councils taking action when the Chancellor won't.

In your dreams. My (Tory) local council is sitting on a healthy surplus and still puts council tax up every year.

The bastards.

(And they didn't lose any money in Iceland, as far as I can tell.)

If GBP1 was 1 second of time, this 145 quid would represent 2 minutes 25 seconds.
Compare that with the 3,809 YEARS the borrowing figure of GBP 1 trillion represents.

Well done H&F AGAIN! Funnily enough when I mention how well they are doing to my own local councillor in Lambeth he doesn't know what to say.

Local councils taking action? Oh God. We are even more doomed than we realised.

You do realise how terrible, time-serving, venal and self-important most councillors seem to be?

MY council has kept the rise below inflation over the last three years but wasting money is something they do, for example paying out to build the local Rugby club a brand new stadium then saying we have to turn off lights, then lending the said club £9 million then saying take your own rubbish to the tip, nice one.

I'll bet H&F have not lowered their parking charges.

Those nasty Tories! They should be out spending that money to get the economy going!

Before we get too carried away, this is the Council that is now attempting to levy £75 per discarded cigarette end and giving space to Quit-line missionaries in Lyric Square and Kings Mall.

H & F receives massive government funding plus vast revenues from 'stealth tax' (council tax). The tools for 'cost cutting' deals with suppliers. Tesco's financial power, reportedly, allows it to screw suppliers to the floor.

H & F have lowest 'exempt paying' households.
