It's been a while since I had a pop at the Health and Safety Executive, that is what I was thinking this morning. And then, as if by magic they put out a press release that made me throw my arms in the air, smash my head into the keyboard and cast inapproriate expletives around the office.You see, the HSE have decided to have a new campaign called "COME CLEAN!"*. Apparently they intend to give out "free advice to cut workplace slips and trips in the cleaning industry" which will include "advice on floor cleaning".
Yes that's right ladies and gentleman! The HSE is telling people in the cleaning industry that in order to avoid slips and trips whilst cleaning they should ensure that they keep the floors clean!?!
* Should you have a crude immature and puerile sense of humour there are great jokes you could make from the campaign's name.

On a related subject, I once got into an online disucssion about, of all things - shop assistants packing bags for customers in supermarkets.
One contributor, who worked in a supermarket pointed out that he wasn't allowed to pack bags as he hadn't been trained how to do the job yet.
Facing an adult population which has to be trained to put things in bags, maybe the guide to cleaning floors isn't so daft after all - alas.

The HSE certainly do.
The sooner the HSE is closed down the better.
The fact that people are having accidents would imply that some companies are not doing it right....
and it looked more like the advice to ensure employees have non slip shoes, rather than the way in which they flick the mop...
Many supermarket people evidently do need some training in packing bags. I do not like my sugar tasting of washing powder. It helps if it is not packed with all the cleaning chemicals....
Yes, because "advice on floor cleaning" is clearly "advice on wearing non-slip shoes" and absolutely nothing to dow tih cleaning.
isn't it just stuff like putting out warning signs and not leaving pools of soapy water everywhere? more like advice on how not to get sued than how to clean a floor i'm guessing
