The fire is still burning... what next?

Danny Finkelstein over at Comment Central is having one of his competitions again and this time it's about the classic Billy Joel track, We Didn't Start the Fire. I can remeber the first time I heard the song when i was at school, it's a great tale of the 20th century, but as Danny points out it ends in 1989 with Tiananmen Square.

Thus it could do with updating with new events and I'm surprised no one has done it yet. I particularly like the second to last verse which says "Palestine, Terror on the airline, Ayatollah's in Iran, Russians in Afghanistan" - only need to change the word "Russians" really!

I'd forgotten all about that song! It's a great song and an update (or continuation) would be intriguing.

I've never understood why there's never been a truly great hit about NATO. Not even from Warren Zevon.
