Some people may have noticed that I've not mentioned the elections. There is a good reason, I've been out. What exactly can I say though? The Conservative Party did great, 700 gains and counting, and we control Blackpool council now which is pretty good going. Shame about a lack of councillors in Manchester and Liverpool, but what can you do? 41% share of the vote is good.
Meanwhile, Labour (and Blair) have been spinning their losses as not actually that bad, and saying they are 1% up on their performance last year and that they have a greater share of the vote now than they did prior to the 2005 General Election.. ergo it's all to play for they say. The Lib Dems have really done poorly.
One thing I did find amusing last night was this by Labour claim that 41% wasn't very good for the Tories. Basically the argument was being framed within the experience of Labour having had two landslides. But you don't need a landslide to take power do you?
It does though sound like the elections in Scotland are a complete mess. Especially where you have a winner with a majority of 1400 and you also have 1500 spoilt ballots. When your spoilt ballots are greater than the margin of victory something is wrong.

I reckon the Blackpool vote, was to stuff labour over the Casino's ,they still have Labour MPs/
To be honest Dizzy, it was a brilliant night for the Tories. But, at the same time, it wasn't the bloodbath for Labour many commentators predicted... it was pretty bad though.
Bloodbath for the Lib Dems! Torbay!! Liverpool - their leader in handbags after losing five to Labour. Labour could have Liverpool back in 2008. City of Culture coming home to the Reds.
The Blackpool result is truly stunning... but hardly surprising. Labour (both the westminster crooks and the local bandits) have treated the town very very badly indeed.
I hope the Conservatives pull out all the stops and do something really imaginative to help revive the town's fortunes. If they do, they'll keep Blackpool for a generation if not longer. I guarantee it.
Next targets are the pair of plonkers who believe supporting ID Cards etc are a better use of their time than dealing with the drunks, druggies and grime which infest their constituencies.
Congrats' to all those who worked so hard, and here's to a brighter (Blair/Brown free) future for all.
