Is the new Labour website harvesting personal canvassing data?

My they're brave! The Labour Party's new look website (which has been designed by a company who's head made a donation to David Cameron) have a section that allows pretty much anyone to post comments on in it. Check it out here, they want peoples' view so I guess they will get them.

Be aware though that whilst they're being very open about discussion they also require your first name, surname, email address, postcode and house number to register. The big question is can you find the privacy policy on the site, it's not easy if you scroll down! It says that "[the Labour Party] will only use the information about you for the purpose for which you provide it." What is the purpose of providing you name, house number and postcode to post on a messageboard? Unsolicited mail shots and canvassing data anyone?

Wonder what the Information Commissioner will think of that if it's what's happening?

I know what it really means, but I thought it was funny that there is an “Object Expected” error when my mouse goes over’ Announcements’ on their menu.

Is it that someone is expected that someone will object to the announcement is the error, or is it that they haven’t rounded up the objectors that is wrong?

Have the Labour Party got enough money to do a mail shot. I'm sure I'm not the only one that gives Downing Streets postcode when registering for this types of sites.

They may reply to people's points. If the IC is consistent and the LP it will be up to two times per point. To acknowledge and to reply. Or to reply and to reply again. Interesting.

Obviously it will be legal and clever being the LP.

Dizzy, If you check out my blog, they spam me with email addresses I have given in similar circumstances and email addresses I have not given them at all.

So yes, they are spamming gits.
