Between December 1st 2006 and March 31st this year, 167 prisoners escpaed from Open Prisons in England and Wales (or "absconded" as the official term dictates). Basically, it works out to average of about one prisoner doing a bunk every day. I guess that's one way of keeping the prison population stable.
