Another one bites the dust

I've just learnt that yet another Government IT programme is being ditched. This time it's the so-called Youth Opportunity Card (YOC), which was going to be a scheme that would give teenagers £25 to spend on local sporting activities so they wouldn't steal cars, smoke fags, drink booze etc etc.

The Children's minister Beverley Hughes told the FT that after consideration "the costs would far outweigh the money being provided to young people" and that there were "considerable risks and uncertainties". Apparently the final cost had more than doubled from £14m to £30m.

The great news is that it only cost the incompetent sods them £2 million of taxpayers to find this out! Reports suggest that after speaking to the FT Beverly Hughes was heard to say to her advisor, "have you got a spare tenner I can use as a firelighter please?"
Hat Tip: Croydonian for pointing ther story out to me.
