As time goes by they do say the memory fades...

Memories can be jogged though and we bloggers can remember it wholesale. In 1997 the Labour Party manifesto said,
"The Conservatives seem opposed to the very idea of democracy. They support hereditary peers, unaccountable quangos and secretive government. They have debased democracy through their MPs who have taken cash for asking questions in the House of Commons."
Could it be that the next Tory manifesto will say,
"The Labour Party seem opposed to the very idea of democracy. They support Parliamentary patronage, unaccountable quangos and secretive government. They have debased democracy through their leader who has taken cash for peerages to the House of Lords."
It's funny really, they came in promising to dismantle the unaccountable quango-state and have since created 110 quangos many of which are stuffed full to rafters with Labour members, donors or vested interests. OH yes, they got a nice sofa for "chats" too! Things can only get better huh?

Good point - and the packing of Labour Party members into these quangos is more blatant than ever. In former times people at least paid lip service to balance, now they do not.

I have looked back at some old stuff Dizzy it is quite amazing what they were saying .I did a thing about the ten-years-ago Blair ,recently with some of their promises inclcuded.

It shocks me what optimism there was then

Indeed you are correct Dizzy we bloggers have long memories. I look forward to the Tories being utterly different from last time.
