Blair asks public to help him find his legacy

The last gasp of a desperate man is usually "HELP ME!" and the same is certainly true of the Prime Minister. A quick glance at the Labour website shows he is calling on the public to help him find his legacy before he sods off. On it is a plea for people who met Blair on the 1997 campaign trail to come forward and let him know how brilliant he's been.

I managed to steer clear, but I've found someone. Signs off as follows.

Please resign. And please - say sorry before you go.

I took part in a Radio One "Party leaders meet young people" thing in Bristol. I asked Tony a tame question about how the minimum wage would hurt students looking for flexible work, to which he gave a load of blather about the New Deal (remember that?). As Bristol Student chairman I was asked to round up some Tory supporters and I brought along my flat mate who I got to ask a question about the Labour characterisation of Tory pension plans (a hot topic for all of 15 minutes back then). My friend asked Blair why he had mischaracterised the policy finishing his question with the immortal words "did you lie or are you just stupid, Mr Blair?"

I claim a hand in that, but I have to give it to my flatmate who came up with the last line himself. He was a pioneer.
