Animal Rights extremists threaten firework display?

A popular fireworks display in Berkshire during the weekend as a result of animal rights extremists concerns for the local animals. In a statement Beale Park said that it could not "guarantee the safety of those attending the event" after discussions with what it called "interest groups". Apparently the display is one of the events held in the park that keeps it afloat and it now having to refund all ticket holder and may fold as a result.

The Age of Endarkenment is truly upon us. At the least the wabbit's ears are ok.

Dizzy, this sort of story deeply depresses me. Can't people weigh up the risk factor properly any more without automatically leaping to the default mechanism of cancelling /banning whatever it is? And as for the animals, well I reckon they have survived these displays before, so what's different now? I suspect it's more a case of fear of potential compo claims in the event someone got injured in a fracas with the animal rights lot.

It's all part of the new puritanism which won't allow people to do anything remotely enjoyable and slightly risky in case there are "consequences". Individuals should be allowed to make their own decisions about how much risk they want to take. In this case - if the event organisers are concerned about potential compo claims, maybe they could get all ticket purchasers to sign a disclaimer(or is that too risky?).
