A reminder of why I don't normally buy the Guardian

Clearly a week of listening to Radio 4 has made me soft in the head as this morning I not only bought the Telegraph but the Guardian too. What was most amusing was that both were anti-Cameron for different reasons.

The Comment section of the Guardian did get me riled slightly though. I particularly enjoyed this bizarre piece by Gary Younge titled "Let's have an open and honest discussion about white people". I call it bizarre because I'm not quite sure what the point he was actually trying to make was, and, having read it again, I'm still not sure.

He began by talking about Corporal Payne, the soldier on trial for war crimes. He then linked this to John Reid and Ruth Kelly on the issue of multiculturalism and extremism. Then he started talking about a 2002 Mori poll that showed 10% of the white people surveyed were racist, this was followed up by reference to the anti-catholic aspects of the Act of Settlement with the eventual conclusion that there's no point in Muslims intergrating in a morally bankrupt imperialist Britain.

I can't honestly begin to explain how he managed to connect these things up, but it must have worked in his head at least. The best bit was his final, final conclusion that all the above things flowed ultimately from the war in Iraq.

Soft in the head? Don't worry about it. Guildford has that affect on everyone. Give it a day or two and you'll be feeling much better.

A lefty black rent-a-column decides to write that whites are the problem and the source of all racism? Shock horror as usual from Comment is Free!
