Last Saturday an opinion poll came out that showed the Tory Party and Labour neck and neck on 36%. At the time I said this was all down to the conference bounce which was seen in the LibDem's figures the week before, and would be mirrored the following week for the Tories, and so it is.
According to an ICM Poll for the Telegraph, the Conservatives now have a six point lead over Labour and are on 38% (Labour 32% and LibDem 20%). There is no real surprise to these figures at all though. When people respond to polling of this sort they tend to do so based on their most recent memories of what politicians have said. During a conference you get near-blanket coverage, so if you don't get a poll boost you should really worry.
The next real poll test will come in a months time when there are no nconferences around to galvinize people's thoughts and opinions. Of course I've no doubt that the ideologues that despise Cameron will have a negative view of the poll's whatever happens. Frankly, I;m happy to lose their vote anyway.
