The claim today by Gordon Brown that he had nothing to do with the attempted coup against Blair earlier this week is in itself laughable. However, what's even more absurd is the denial that politics was discussed when Tom Watson visited Brown's scottish home last Monday.
The idea that two national politicians didn't discuss politics (especially the internal politics of their own party) when they met in a personal capacity is, frankly, bollocks. It's about as likely as Philip Anshutz and the Deputy Prime Minister discussing William Wilberforce and not mentioning casinos.
Expect statements along the lines of "Tom Watson was given [insert department here] on the basis of merit" in the future should Brown lead Labour.

With this, Brown is taking the absloute rampant out of Blair. A Midlands MP heading up to Scotland for a personal visit to the Brown clan? Pull the other one. Civil war has officially begun.
