Visiting Order for Ms Jowell?

I'd say Tessa Jowell got off lightly with her "I never discussed the extra £400K mortgage, honest guv" defence.
Wonder if she will apply for a Visiting Order?

Bet she's glad she kept her first husband's name. Bit rough on him though.

I wonder if HMRC will be looking into the money laundering aspect of Mills paying the mortgage off with his "bribe"?

Yes I can only imagine if I was sentenced to over 4 years in jail as to what I would say to my wife (partner, lover ....). You can bet it would not be a gentlemanly,

"Oh dear, I'm very disappointed". More like 'WTF!'.

Actually, perhaps I'm reading this incorrectly. Maybe David Mills feels he ought to have a longer period handed down to him?

I do feel sorry for dear old Silvio though. I'm sure that he would love to have paid more than £400k for such sterling service, but probably his (Italian) tax advisors said that would be pushing it on the tax deductible front. Who knows?

Are they estranged in the same way that Jackboots' primary residence is a spare room at her sister's?

Much as a loathe nulab and the Harpersons, Jowells of this world in particular, this one worries me.

It seems that there is a war between certain left wing Italian judges and advocates with Prime Minister Berlusconi. It may well be that Mills is right in saying this is a political trial

I always have a gut feeling that Europeans don't do justice. I would be far more confident had this been in front of a British Court

Get real. For years Italian politics has been rivedn with influence from the mafia, which has been largely cleaned up by the judges, some of whom have paid for theoir good work with their lives.

It i clear that Berlusconi is under mafia influence if not entirely in their pay and his association with members of the mafia is well-documented.

Just one snippet from Wikipedia:
In 1996, a Mafia supergrass, Salvatore Cancemi, declared that Berlusconi and Dell'Utri were in direct contact with Salvatore Riina, head of the Sicilian Mafia in the 1980s and 90s. Cancemi disclosed that Fininvest, through Marcello Dell'Utri and mafioso Vittorio Mangano, had paid Cosa Nostra 200 million lire (100 000 euro) annually. The alleged contacts, according to Cancemi, were to lead to legislation favourable to Cosa Nostra, in particular the harsh 41-bis prison regime. The underlying premise was that Cosa Nostra would support Berlusconi's Forza Italia party in return for political favours. After a two-year investigation, magistrates closed the inquiry without charges. They did not find evidence to corroborate Cancemi’s allegations. Similarly, a two-year investigation, also launched on evidence from Cancemi, into Berlusconi’s alleged association with the Mafia was closed in 1996.

Berlusconi/Mills may portray this as a political trial, but the reality is that the judges are just calling things as they see it.

As for Mills it is hard to have any sympathy. He was embroiled in the Ecclestone donations, and was caught trying to peddle influence at Cabinet level by getting Lady Symons to help out some Iranians to get access to modern US built aircraft. Nothing came of the latter, but Symons left politics soon after whiclst still quite young, so read what you like into that.
