Dribblers protecting the nation?

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I saw the following job advertised on the Civil Service Gateway for a role at MI6.

Not you understand because of the job itself, but because the required qualifications are "5 GCSE grades A-E or equivalent."

Yes that's right, we are willing to employ morons with five E grade GCSEs to help protect the nation. Makes you feel warm, fluffy and safe huh?

And when we are up against things like, Chinese IT Firm Accused of Links to Cyberwarfare, how do we think we can ever compete?

How many graduates do you think you'd attract to a fairly lowly paid administrators job then? Personally speaking I'm more than happy that the guys that do that actual intelligence work require good degrees. The people that run the photocopying and book meetings etc. don't need to be James Bond.

Find out more about being an Administrator in SIS, test your skills

It's not a selection tool, although the results should also tell you something about your suitability

Hmm, not sure I agree with your thinking on this one, Dizzy.

Let's imagine the shortlisting process:

"So, we've got 15 candidates with 5 A/B grade GCSE's and 15 with D/E grades. How shall we whittle this list down?"

As an aside, I've managed to carve out a half-decent career and living, despite not being able to progress beyond GCSEs. Some jobs need people with experience rather than just some gormless twit who has parents to subsidise life during college and Uni, so they can get a degree in bloody meejya studies (which is bugger all use to anyone, frankly). P.S. Bollocks, the aside "rant" is the longest part of my comment...

I didn't say they are employing them, I said they're willing to employ them.

I applaud your gamesmenaship in dissing the competition for this post, but you appear to have omitted the line that reads "You should not discuss your application with anyone."

Had a go on the assessment. Disappointed that I only got 84% although they claimed I messed up on the prioritisation which I disagree with.

Never had a "spot the difference" in a graudate test mind; I thought I was playing a pub game!

Did the assessment too, 96% haha! Thought flock it, might as well apply, let you know how I get on.

(Got sick of trying to get the fourth spot the difference, think this screen might need a brightness check)
