Apple tells its users to get anti-virus

Sssssh say it quietly lest anyone hear, but you know how Apple's OSX is invisible to viruses. You know how their advertising makes much of knocking Windows for being crap and vulnerable to viruses (which it is)? Well Apple have quietly announced on its support forum that,
encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult. Here are some available antivirus utilities.
Have they done a special deal with some software providers or is that naughty people are getting wise about how to penetrate the Church of Jobs? The latter if far more likely than the former.

Note 1:Yes the link is to a trojan not a virus. Point stands.
Note 2: This post exists purely because I love Mac bashing as their zealots are worse than Linux ones :)

Do I detect some smugness here?

Not a bit. Well ok, just a little, but then it's not really directed at the OSX users I know personally because most of them are tech-savvy - like Devil's Kitchen - and they are not quite so naive as to think it could/would never happen.

It's worth noting as well that there are currently no live viruses for OSX or other Unix variants like Linux. Trojans on the other hand are a different matter, although OSX was always going to find itself targetted eventually.

Well, to be absolutely fair, even my system has over 80 items of malware, though only did were capable of doing serious harm, and all were easily stopped.

As far as I am aware, nothing new has appeared for some years now, though our VZap is updated as soon as anything new comes to light.

Of course, the OS kernel (and a lot of the rest of it) is in ROM, where it should be (one doesn't write to an OS itself) so I can never end up unable to boot-up, even if some of my preferences and add-ons aren't immediately accessible. I have never been without my "proper" computers for the twenty years I have been running RISC OS.

Perhaps I should be a touch smug...

Apple have pulled the article claiming it was outdated and posted in error.
