He was clearly in the way!

This is the first time I've ever heard of something called the Critical Mass bike ride, but apparently it is a monthly celebration of cyclists over car drivers and goes through major US cities.

It all sounds horribly irritating to me as a pedestrian. Clearly when it went through Times Square in New York on July 25th it upset another pedestrian too. Only problem looks to be the uniform he was wearing whilst he was walking.
The really good news is that he arrested the cyclist too.
Note: This post is laced with deliberate sarcasm

Update: The officer in question has had his badge taken away. Meanwhile the NY Post thinks there is more to the story than what the video appears to show.

Been going on over here in some places for years. And yes, it is immensley irritating.
And I say that as a cyclist.

Can't blame him for hating cyclists (as I'm sure any right thinking car driver does) but it does appear that he had to take an extra step in order to push him off his bike.

They do bike rides in London too, although I haven't seen a poster for some time now. They are supposed to "raise awareness" for cycling as preferable over driving - not to annoy peds.

I'm a motorist (disabled child to cart around) and have no axe to grind with either cyclists, the fuzz or pedestrians (all do stupid things ...none have any monopoly in virtue in transporting themselves in the course of their human activities)

BUT m'lud...

the cyclist was trying to avoid NYPD guy, NYPD guy ran at the cyclist and shoulder-barged him off his bike!!??

That is just by any standards WRONG.

Funny though he was caught on camera.

Y'know we should have more cctv in this country.

That is absolutely 'bitchin' as our american cousins say.
The cop should get a medal. Militant cyclists are some of the most nauseating individuals on our planet.

Yeah... he's on steroids AND doughnuts!

Seriously though, as a person who NEVER drives, I can't stand the Critical Mass mob... I wouldn't be surprised if these two had "met" previously.
