Some more pointless e-Government

It would appear that DirectGov have launched a new service whereby you can watch Government campaigns videos on your mobile.
Text 'VIDEO' to 64746 to download and share Directgov videos on your mobile. Standard network rates apply
Apparently you will be able to get videos such as "DVLA – Car Tax Evasion Campaign". Honestly, I'm deadly serious.

Now tell me this. What sort of person is going to pay to text the Government and then pay network rates on top to watch a video telling them that it is naughty to evade paying road tax?

Other videos include the "Think! - Road Safety Campaign". Presumably you must not download and watch this one whilst driving. Although having said that, how would you know it was dangerous until you watched it?

THe same sort of person who even now still support s Labour? Someone who thinks the Lib Dems are a sensible alternative? Anyone who ever, ever voted for Ken Livingstone?

This is taking 'engaging with the public with new media' a little too far. Some selectivity in which videos they waste taxpayers money on would be appreciated.

Absolutely no-one.

Still, no doubt some consultancy firm got a nice little earner for suggesting it, and a meeja firm another for making it. So that's alright then....

And what about the one where they warned against fitting radials and cross ply tyres on the same car axle? They were showing that one on TV until the mid 70s. Oh my, we've never had it so good!
