Saturday Observation

Did Mark Dixie - the man convicted for the murder of Sally Anne Bowman - seriously think that the defence of "I was just walking along and was a little bit stoned and I saw this girl's dead body and thought 'why not' and gave her one" was really going to wash as a defence? More to the point, I wonder how the poor sodding barrister that had to argue that case actually felt about such an absurdity?

Since he was no doubt rinsing the legal aid fund for all it was worth, pretty good, I'd say...!

It's a variation on the standard defence to burglary: 'I just went in for a pee.' Barristers have to put forward these crap defences week in and week out. And sometimes, FFS, juries swallow them.

Amused?

During a film in which a bimbo gets killed, I quipped "Quick get on her whilst she's still warm!". The prison audience appreciated the black humour, which you might call a sick joke.

That he even tried this as a defence astounded even me. What are the odds of stranger danger twice visiting this unfortunate victim within such a short space of time? I suspect you would have more chance of winning the Lotto 3 Saturdays on the trot without buying a ticket!

does a man who kills and rapes the dead bodies of women come into the class of people who "seriously think they could get away with an illogical defence"?

It's not like he was reluctantly on the inevitably losing side of an Oxford Union debate about "This government went into an illegal war in Iraq" is it Dizz?
