Quick comment on Hain

All the best stuff happens when you're away huh? My only comment on Peter Hain that can spring to mind right now is if you're innocent why do you need to resign? The house of cards with Harman and Alexander are now looking dicey.

See your mate Guido is basking in it, his fans are posting by the shedload. Most are not sure why Hain was such a bad fellow, being orange seems to be the most popular reason for him to be gone. Doubt most of them even know what his job was, or even why he had done the decent thing and resigned.

Many people have never trusted Hain - doubts reinforced when he claimed that he had never taken cannabis. Yet he openly smoked pot when he was president of the Young Liberals at the party conferences in Scarborough and Llandudno in 1975 and 1976. It is not the offence that matters, it is the lie that does.

He resigned because GB said a week ago that Hain's fate depended on the verdict of the Electoral Commission. When the EC said there was a case to answer (but they don't have the power to investigate), that meant that Hain had to go before the media held GB to his word and fired him. If GB fired him, he would have to do the same to Harman & Alexander (Ms).
