How dare you change your name for racist Tories?

There's a great little 'all Tories are secretly racists especially Andrew Rosindell' story in the Independent Pandora column this morning. Apparently a Tory candidate called Annesley Abercorn used be Annesley Abeykoon but he anglicised his name by deed poll. Pandora says a friend of his said this was upon advice that it was 'too foreign' and the same friend cites mentoring by Rosindel. The implication in the story is of course quite clear.

First, the candidate has denied his roots, 'what a tory scumbag!'. Second, he's done it to pander to the racist Tory Party. Third he is pandering to the racist electorate and conning them about who he really is (because they can't ever find a picture of him you see). Frankly it's outrageous that someone would anglicise their name! It's not like there is a precedent for it. Can you imagine the outrage if the Royal Family anglicised their name for example?........ Oh..... errr......

Or Dennis McShane (nee Matyjaszek)? Couldn't have someone sounding too Polish on the Labour benches could we!

What hasn't Gisela Gschaider not reverted to her maiden name now that she has divorced Mr Stuart?

I've been looking through Labour Cabinet Ministers, looking for name changes, but quickly gave up after discovering the gem that Brown's father's middle name was Ebenezer.
How apt.

I remember when he changed his name at Rosindell's bidding. I'd suggest that the more embarassing thing in the story is that he used to work for Rozza!

Abercorn...may have old connections with Rozza but he's now working for Oliver Letwin - hardly to the right of the Tory party, hardly anti-immigration, and hardly an English thoroughbred being, as he is, Jewish.

Praguetory - because most divorced women don't, especially those who started their careers under their married names. the correct form, of course, is that she shouldn't, too - she's Mrs G S now, not Miss G G.

Seem to have hit a nerve.

Is it just me that thinks Abeykoon for a black guy sounds a bit obviously a fake comedy name?

He's not black he's Sri-Lankan and its spelt 'Abeyakoon', quite a common surname.

Besides, I have it on good authority that he was as if not more keen to anglicise his surname long before anybody supposedly suggested he do it. Aparently at one point 'Wilfred Annesley' was seriously considered.

Personally I think anybody whos ashamed of their colour and/or heritage should be ashamed of themselves.
