Government spins NHS IT recruitment failures

Remember the complete mess that was MTAS? Well the Government appears, at first glance at least, to have acknowledged that the whole thing was a mess and have issued a press release stating at the top "No national IT system for applications". Sounds like a total reversal doesn't it? But then you read on and it says the following in the middle (my emphasis),
No national IT system for applications to training
- Deaneries will arrange their processes locally, building on the arrangements they had in place for Round 2 in 2007.
- The Programme Board agreed to develop a user-friendly and secure national IT system for use in the future.
So that's no national IT system accept for the national IT system we've agreed to develop. In other words, we paid for a system that totally failed and has been scrapped, and now we're going to spend money on another one whilst making the headline that we're not going to have another one.
