Patrick Mercer talks about "that story"

Have just watched this excellent interview clip on 18 Doughty Street of an interview by Iain Dale with Patrick Mercer who, as some will remember, was sacked after allegedly "racist comments". Well worth watching and it deserves to be aired in places other than the Internet in my mind. Clearly Patrick Mercer is anything but bitter about it all.

I’m afraid you’re entirely wrong to say: "Clearly Patrick Mercer is anything but bitter about it all."

Patrick Mercer, in an interview with Rod Liddle was asked "is David Cameron a man of principle?"

Mercer replied, "He is the leader"

Rod Liddle said "Yes, I know he’s the leader. I asked you if he had principle?"

Mercer repeats, "He is the leader"

Rod Liddle "Yes, I persist, but does he have principle?"

He finishes his glass of water, smiles a little, narrows his eyes and, from the other side of the table, sticks two fingers up at Rod Liddle

"He is the leader," he says, with finality and stands to leave.

Clearly, Patrick Mercer, was very embittered and perhaps that is why he walked into the Gordon Brown tent and caused yet more trouble for his leader.

I believe Mercer to be a grim man loving duty more than humanity.

I also believe Mercer to be an ambitious, disingenuous and hypocritical operator who exemplified the most disagreeable traits of his time.
