Beckett is Britain's most powerful woman?

Spotted this lot of nonsense in the Guardian this morning about a new list of powerful women compiled by Forbes. Apparently, our Foreign Secretary, Margaret Beckett, is the most powerful woman in Britain.

Anyone who even mildly follows British politics knows that such an assertion is utterly absurd. Margaret Beckett - who infamously said "fuck" when she was given the job at the FCO - has been utterly impotent in her role. She hasn't done anything.

So how exactly could Forbes come to such a conclusion? Well apparently the list is based on "public visibility (measured by press exposure), and economic impact". As the ever perceptive Croydonian said to me: "On that basis various idiots from Big Brother outpoint Her Maj and so on"

Her job is powerful, but what exactly has she achieved since becoming Foreign Secretary? She is the most lack lustre female politician in the Cabinet.
