Changing the speed limit on B Roads

Given I grew up in the countryside and learned to drive (read, boy racer in a mini cooper) on the winding roads of the Shires, I couldn't help but have an opinion on the plans to reduce speed limits on rural B roads. I'm going to be blunt. It won't make a blind bit of difference. People will still drive fast on such roads and without a massive extension of speed cameras into areas where they will fail to recoup their own costs it will be completely unenforcebale.

The most effective and safe way to reduce speed on rural B roads is to remove the white line in the middle. It's amazing how well it works. If you remove the conofrt zone of the middle line drivers become much more aware of their speed and position.

also even if the fascists try to put up thousands of cameras, we'll just knock them down..it'll be a major form of rural bonding and entertainment...

You are of course wrong. People (often commuters during the week or townies at the weekend) drive far too fast. I once saw someone overtake the car in front of him (which had slowed down for horses) and passed the horses at what must have been at least 60 mph. It is now a nightmre driving in my neck of the woods because you never know what speed you should be driving at. We should be like the Germans and set speed limits which you know apply within the environs of the hamlet, village or town. There is no need to drive at 60 mph on single carriage country roads.

"...it will be completely unenforcebale." No you need to join your dots, when you add in the "black box" satellite road charging which will also monitor your speed then it will be easy to enforce. Joined up government you know.

BTW I agree with you totally where you say: "The most effective and safe way to reduce speed on rural B roads is to remove the white line in the middle. It's amazing how well it works. If you remove the conofrt zone of the middle line drivers become much more aware of their speed and position." It's just like the traffic lights, when their out of order the traffic proceeds so much better.

If you're going to accuse me of being wrong Anon, at least explain why. As for not knowing what speed you should be driving at, then read the Highway Code. As for doing what the Germans do, we already do, read the Highway Code.

Had you bothered to read my post you'd have seen that I said people drive too fast and will continue to do whatever signs you put up.

Tou the other anon, yes, more of the surveillance state is likely, and I bet we have to pay for the privilege of being watch too.

I think that it isnt going to matter what speed you make the highway signs, because the older people are going to drive the same speed no matter what you make it,because by now they have found their comfort zone. The newer drivers just flat out... DON'T CARE! (because they think they are invicible) i am from a town with about 2,000 people in it, and even if you put up surveillance cameras, they would come down! and their is nothing the police can do about it! they WOULD come down! but yes,... some people do drive too fast! Oh.. and just a question, how fast is driving too fast!?
