The following video is part of the promotion for the new TLD .tel. A slightly new innovation which, rather than converting a named web address to an IP address, actually allows for storage of personal contact information. It basically allow people to store contact information directly in the DNS without the need to build, host or manage a website.
You can also add further information which you can make privately available to those you choose. Think of it like a global business card without the need to ever know how to build a website.
I can see this becoming very popular with small businesses who cannot justify the cost of building and maintaing a website, but would like a web address with basic contact, address and perhaps map location on it.
You can get your tel name here. Mine will go live soon hopefully.

This is BRILLIANT!!!
No longer will I have to print three different business cards - just one short url for everything.
Very grateful indeed to you for pointing this out.
Its brilliant for the first few hundred people that get a memorable .tel , after that the simplicity disappears. Try writing John_9473.tel on a window in foam and have someone remember it.
I notice that on your entry you have left your email address public. Isn't this a bit of a nightmare spam-wise?
My email address is already public on this site.
Doesn;t bother me much really
