Obama does a Blair?

I see Barack Obama has admitted a mistake about his choice for Health Secertary Tom Daschle, basically telling a TV interview "I screwed up". Refreshing to get a mea culpa, however, for some strange reason I justr can't help thinking of the infamous Blair moment about Bernie Ecclestone when he said he was "a pretty straight sort of guy" on TV.

If you listen to elements of Obama's speeches there is a distinctive Blairite/Clintonite Third Way tone about them. His books too could easily have been written by Blair as well. No surprise then that when he cocks up he would say "OK I cocked up" in the hope of spiking the story.

Update: Great minds clearly think alike as Paul Waugh at the Evening Standard has made a similar obsevration.

Are you criticising him for admitting a mistake?

Would you prefer that he says he didn't and moves forward regardless?

I keep feeling that one day something big is going to really discredit Obama. he is already making mistakes and having to compromise on promises.

Have you only just spotted the similarity between Obama and good old Tony? That's what's been worrying me about him. I'm just extremely glad not to be American at the moment... (and I was no great fan of Bush).

I thought the similarities were obvious. Obama is Blair2.0

That was obvious from the very beginning of his election campaign.

Nah I spotted it a while ago

It's the fashion to call eevrything your black version - "Mecedes AMG Black" for example. This usually means something the same but 'styled'. Now we've got Blair Black

Let's all exchange trite homilies.

Great minds think alike.

I was thinking that keeping Bush's defense guy could have been his independent BoE moment.

Isn't there an old saying along the lines of "Honesty, the last refuge of the incompetent".

If not then there should be!
