Has Draper been politely fired as Labour List editor?

It would appear that Labour List may soon be saved from the car crash that it was facing under the editorship of Derek Draper. I say this based upon something that has appeared on Draper's Wikipedia article. It was added a couple of days ago by a user called Philiphonour and says
"A rumor that Derek has been asked to handover control of Labourlist by influential Labour party insiders is yet to be confirmed."

Could this be the same Philip Honour that is a big name in Labour Student circles and is also a contributer to LabourList by any chance?

If Labour List has politely fired Draper then, for want of a better phrase, "things can only get better" for the site. Having said this, could it possibly be that there is a deep split within the ranks of the site and Labour Party about the Internet strategy?

UPDATE: How interesting, Philiphonour has applied to change his username on Wikipedia this morning to Londonwriter1984 for reasons of anonymity.

Can't imagine why!

UPDATE II: Well his account has been changed and he got told off for his edit.

I've changed your username.

We can but hope.

That man has gone from be deluded to deranged in a matter of days.

His obsessional rantings and attempts to bring down other bloggers are dangerous

Also Labourlist have dropped the link to:-

http://www.b3ta.com/

Perhaps it was the competion about crooked Lords?

That would be really sad if its true. I go there every day just to laugh at Derek and the rest of the cockroach cluster - cheers me up no end

Draper's removal from LabourList would be good from Labour's perspective - clearly the man is one sandwich short of a picnic.

I, however, would miss Dolly - because he does come out with some fantastic tosh. LabourList with Draper at the helm provides a great deal of entertainment.

"I'm building a site for 60,000,000 people" - with Draper gone, who is going to fill the role of blog-village-idiot?

According to this:http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Derek_Draper&diff=271305693&oldid=271215310

the last paragraph about this on Wiki has been deleted although it was still there a moment ago.

I didn't see this reported on GMTV.

I think there are deep splits in Derek Draper's mental attitude, let alone the Labour Party, hence why I sent him a letter on my blog today.

Please keep Draper, just like Brown he is doing wonders for the Labour Party.

I sincerely hope that Draper will fight this to the death. He is the true face of New Labour. It would be a scandal if he were replaced by someone less representative.

A deeply ironic shame that a gentleman apparently surnamed "Honour" cannot spell rumour without falling into American sloppiness...

It's certainly gone extremely quiet over there. Mind you, I can't imagine that a brief hiatus from "short messages from Keith Vaz" will do any harm.

Good bye Dolly you must leave us,

Dizzy,

I don't think there's a split within the ranks of the site: they surely all despise him.

obviously good for the site . . although Dolly's always 10 out of 10 for entertainment value!

Dizzy - Have you seen that the owner of the Philiphonour account has applied to change his username for reasons of anonymity?

I think your deduction was spot on. Now the only question is how well connected Mr Honour is...

Dear Mr Phil

Much as I love to read your wise words, a quick hop over to my modest little offering would have told you some days ago that Drooper was to be sacked.

How did I know? Last week I instructed darling Gordy to sack the awful little snake. By Friday it will all be done and dusted.

Details here: http://lordofmarrakech.blogspot.com/2009/02/draper-to-be-sacked-from-labourlist.html

Much Love

PS, I need a handsome youth to do the html interwank thing for me. Unlimited KY and a warm bed on offer to the lucky boy. Any applicants?

I try hard to keep up but, tempus fugit, etc. I notice that the lad Honour has 'moved into the third sector.'I suppose anything is better than Darfur.

Has he been beamed up? Indeed, did this wistful looking mediocrity ever exist outside cyberspace.

Do these wonks have any contact with the normal people they seek to represent and advance. Answers on the back of a stamp, please.

Drippy Draper's entry on Wikipedia now ends with "By 17th February 2009 an uncharacteristic lack of posts at Labour List and other rumours were being cited as evidence that Derek Draper had been asked to hand over the reins of the site to others.[13]"

Prodicus said...

I suppose we'll know that the degree of disaffection has reached 'terminate with extreme prejudice' when the first item in their right side bar is something other than Draper's Twitterings.

But Mr Phil Dup's abuse of WikiP has worked. He has got the speculation out into the public domain. Which might have been what he wanted.

There will be some fierce fighting over the de-Drapering of LabourLost, his loyal Draperbots will be fearful and angry so watch out for some severe counterblasts and more dirty deeds.

Dizzy,

An anonymous editor restored this rumour, and cited this blogpost.

I've reverted it and am keeping a watch on the page. Lucky me!

I had a tiny peep at Draperlist earlier today whilst trapped on a train for two hours.

A blog ninja by the name of 'ash cash' was I thought Mr Draper's little moderation helper, however now that Mr Draper has disappeared from the site - 'ash cash' has now morphed into someone with a remarkably similar tone and propencity for juvenile haha one-liners

Has he become his own sock-puppet? I just can't believe that such an obsessive flamer could stop just like that.

For anyone wondering - my train had run someone over.

Poor bugger. What a way to go - Balham of all places.

Derek Draper has become the ultimate parody of a spin doctor, what amazes me is that the BBC and Guardian actually valued the bullshit that Draper used to spout.

Derek Draper must have been unaware that the blogsphere operates 24/7, any comments he posts can be discredited instantly, in his old job as a spin doctor, all he had to do was brief the gullible BBC reporters in the morning, and then spend the rest of the day attacking anonymously anyone he disliked.

Now that he has received a bit of his own medicine he cant take it, which proves at least to me that people like Draper can only function in the shadows, which with his looks is the best place for him.

Houdini said...

The question missing from all this Dizzy is whether Draper, a renowned egomaniac, will accept that he should go. If he does, will he go quietly? I suspect not, alternatively he will but with some kind of sweetener. Maybe now that his psychobabble scam has been rumbled he may be offered a safe seat for the next election, but is there a safe Labour seat?

This Wikipedia comment is bizarre. Would one speculate about a future event where a dead person is involved then?

The comments on Guido's blog can be a bit, well, rich, sometimes. The really bad ones are ditched when Guido spots them. Even the very rude ones are normally very amusing.

But reading Labourlist feels somehow, contaminating. It's like the feeling you get when you touch something really dirty, but can't immediately wash your hands.
