Labour spamming bloggers and breaking their own spam laws?

It's rare that in the space of just week I would twice post something that wasn't negative about Tim Ireland of Bloggerheads and also link to him, but he makes a very good point here and interestingly it's of a similar angle to something I posted about TfL some time ago.

The long and short of Tim's post is that the Labour Party are spamming him with emails he didn't ask for. Justin McKeating of Chicken Yogurt has received them as well.

The thing is, it's not just left-leaning blogs that have been getting these mails. I have received at least two of these emails in the past four months. Like TfL emails, there is no unsubscribe option to the emails.

1. Cheers for the link.

2. Come on Phil, fess up; you're only critical of me because/when I'm critical of you (or Iain or Paul). And there are times when you've been critical of me and haven't provided a link to back up what you were claiming at the time.

Note the absence of links covering old ground in this case, mainly because I trust you will accept my point and I'd rather not have a needless pagga today. But I do have some new information for you that does require a link, as you may have missed this:

The only time you have had any valid criticism of me was when I was wrong about who exactly was doing the sock-puppeting that brought Nadine Dorries' alleged attacks to life... but you've been equally wrong about who exactly was maliciously/obsessively editing Paul Staines' Wikipedia entry. It weren't me, as you have suggested in the past... it were this joker.

By 'received', do you mean that you were forwarded them?

"The long and short of Tim's post is..."

I'm glad you summarised it like that, because trying to read Tim's posts generally, is a rather tedious and masochistic way to spend one's time

But he has point, if not a life

I'll be brutally honest Tim, I don't recall having accused you directly of editing his wikipedia page. Willing to stand corrected on that of course, type a lot of stuff in a lot fo places so maybe I did.

Miller: By received I mean I received them from source full with links to the stuff that Tim has linked to.

Reminder coming via PM. Tempers were running high at the time, which helps to explain the action *and* why I'm not linking to it right now.

Hmmm... this will probably be seen as weasel words but I didn't say you edited his page, I just accused you editing wikipedia but I can see how the inference could be made so I offer my apology for that perception.

For the record, the evidence shows you didn't edit his page and I was wrong to make the inference you did.

Thanks for that.

Getting back to the point, can't you guys complain to the police or ofcom or someone if they are breaking their own spam laws? I certainly would if I received any unsolicited mail from a Labour source...
