I have very little to add to the comment that has gone on in the papers and blogs over the news that Cameron has backed down after resignation threats from Hague et al. Cameron has seriously cocked up on this point but not telling them they were fired the minute they threatened to resign.
The Labour Party will have a field day pointing out that those asking the people to make them the leaders of the country are so committed to that end that they have other jobs too. I wouldn't be bothered about it either because Labour would be right.
The result of the whole thing now is that (a) Cameron looks weak and (b) the Shadow Cabinet don't look like they ever want to be anything other than a Shadow. How on earth can it be considered a Government-in-waiting if some of them don't want to get their hands dirty on the governing part?

Yep, Cameron should have let them go, I wonder who would have wanted them & how much they'd have been worth after being sacked & letting down the Tory party & surporters?

Sigh. Many, including me, predicted trouble with Cameron in charge when he was appointed and nothing has subsequently altered that perception. At the time the Tory bloggers were angry at these comments but now it seems vindicated.
The Tories need a leader and a direction.

Perhaps the Tories are frightened of being in power, bearing in mind the horrendous mess they will inherit. Or possibly they lack confidence in themselves and want to keep their other interests as an insurance.
It's a disgrace. They need to get a grip. And quick.
Perhaps the Tories should set up a fake 'think tank' which can pay politicians waiting for office. It worked for Ed Balls.
I disagree. There are too many career politicians. We should all benefit if our politicians had some other life.
I flatly disagree that politicians need to be full time. A lot of the problems that beset us are BECAUSE there are so many that don't have (and more importantly never have had - e.g. Gordon Brown)proper jobs.
The problem is Cameron making the silly statement that he has now had to back down from.
