Someone have a word....

Have just read a mildly amusing story on page 2 of the Sun (not online) saying that Gordon Brown has rejected the use of a BMW and will stick with Jaguar because he supports British industry.

I guess he must have missed the fact that Jaguar are owned by Tata, the Indian based car giant. He also presumably missed the fact that it was Ford - American - who sold Jaguar to Tanta.

Dizzy, it's Tata, no "n" in the name.

Also, the Jags are made in the UK so he is supporting British industry because the BMWs are made in Germany of course.

Not all BMWs are made in Germany.

Can't see the Sun's story but I'm guessing its purely another piece of spin.

In 2 or 3 weeks, when the heat is off, the Prime Minister will be swanning around London and his constituency in one of the two new Al-Qaeda proofed BMW Limos reserved just for his use.

If anyone challenges him later, he'll just claim he was forced to switch under the advice of Scotland Yard... but of course, if it were up to him he'd still be riding around in a Morris Minor to support the heroic British worker, naturally.

The man makes me sick, he just has to news manage every damn thing. If he cared that much, he'd have ordered that his Ford Mondeo - sorry, Jaguar - was upgraded to ward off any fearsome Al-Qaeda style Squeegee Boy attacks at the traffic lights.

He is trying to support British jobs. Jags are built in the UK by British people. They are also designed and engineered here. BMWs are made and designed in Germany by Germans. BMWs are also made in China, South Africa and USA for local markets mostly (exception being the X3, X5) Nevertheless, no BMWs are made in the UK, Jags are, even if their owners are Indian, the people dependent on buyers are British.
What I would say is: Gordon, too little, too late

Our glorious unelected leader probably thinks Japan is just up the A 19 from Sunderland.

Isn't that protectionism? :o)

It would be interesting to see some figures comparing how long it took for the Cabinet to get better armoured vehicles from when recommended with the time it will take to get British servicemen adequately protected.

If the PM had any sense of honour then he would say that he would not be upgrading his protection until every British serviceman was adequately protected in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Defence Minister should do so even if the PM does not.

Actually, some BMWs are made in Britain.

But why shouldn't the PM's official car be built by a British-owned firm? I'd love to see him trying to squeeze into a Morgan.

Isn't it fantastic to see how business illiterate Brooon is?

I wouldn't trust him to tie his own shoelaces, never mind lecturing me on the fact that he is going to take my vital organs unless I "opt out"...
