Just heard a rumour that Ed Balls is apparently going to be making some sort of announcement this afternoon and "probably/might be/who knows" scrap the SATS.*
* This was hinted at by Balls in an interview with Andrew Marr in September.
He's likely to scrap SATS because its implementation and control has been so catastrophic. And who was responsible for this?
So anyway, how are attainment levels to be assessed now? After all, the Government has repeatedly insisted that this system was essential to raise standards in schools etc etc. Does this mean that no one gives a toss about 'education x 3' any more? Or are we once again to see another huge change of direction? Or is it possibly because the SATS results are off-message?
It's just after the start of a new term, so it really must be about time we had a new set of policies and guidelines to get on with, surely? Maybe we'll be getting yet another Minister if we're ever so lucky.
Maybe I'm missing something, but FYI sats currently exist for 7, 11 and 14 year olds and that's it. 16, 17 and 18 year olds also take exams, but they're pretty different to sats (for a start, they actually mean something)

Apparently only for 14 year olds. Still there for 11 16 and 18.

I wonder what and who it'll be this time.
Seems you're right...
