Norman Baker's silly season idea

Well it is silly season now, so I guess that is why Norman Baker, the Lib Dem MP for Lewes has come out with quite possibly the dumbest idea of the day. Apparently he wants airlines to be fined if 95% of passengers cannot check-in within 15 minutes.

Presumably next he will be calling for fines for passengers. After all, what happens when all the passengers turn up at the same time and late? Stupid idea, totally impratical and totally unworkable because it's the passengers that cause the check-in queues most of the time.

Perhaps he could start fining the Highways Agency for traffic jams on the way to the airport too?

I think it is generally accepted if you pay peanuts for a flight you may have to spend some times in a queue - you get what you pay for.
Having said that you also have to queue for some time when paying full fare on scheduled airlines.

This sort of thing should be left to the market.

No. Norman Baker is a Lib Dem MP and that's why he has come out with quite possibly the dumbest idea of the day.

Ridiculous idea. Typical interventionalist rubbish from a party that claims to stand up for freedom from the state. If some airlines continually under perform on check-in times and fail to make up for it in other areas then they'll lose business.
Why do Lib Dems and the socilaists find common-sense, free market forces so hard to grasp ?

Oh dear. Does Mr Baker not like standing in queues with the chavs at the airport?
