Amusing post on Liberal Conspiracy

When 'Liberal Conspiracy' was set up as a collective lefty blog, its founder Sunny Hundal went on the Radio and explained that the name of the site was chosen in order to gently mock the right wing conspiracy theorists that claim there is a left-liberal conspiracy in the UK media's style of news and reporting.

Yesterday, the very same Sunny Hundal posted on Liberal Conspiracy arguing that those on the political right who question whether Gordon Brown is a bit of a weirdo are engaged in some sort of deliberate strategy to create a "malicious narrative"... a conspiracy basically.

There is something quaintly amusing about someone setting up a site with a name designed to mock the notion of left wing conspiracy theories, who then posts something arguing that there is some sort of right wing conspiracy going on.

The sad fact of course on the matter of Brown is that quite a lot of people, political and apolitical, do think he comes across as a bit of an oddball. Then you read some of the quotes attributed to him and not denied by Downing Street and you can't help but wonder if he's a bit chicken oriental.

Expressing such a view is not about trying to create a meme, it's about being honest enough to say "you know what, I think he's a bit of a weirdo". Of course, the comment thread on Sunny's post is amusing as well. It appears that a lot of the leftie contributers seem to think Brown's a bit of a freak too.

Sunny of course was quick to describe the Mayor as homophobic because he stopped funding a Soho barcrawl, failing to note that the money was diverted to gay equality education.

Who's the side hurling the abuse, Sunny?

As usual dizzy your obfuscation is quite remarkable. The issue is not whether Brown is "a weirdo", it's whether he's mentally ill, suffering from a personality disorder or from autism, all alluded to by Guido. As for the rest, I think that was adequately responded to over on the thread.

Glad to see you;ve totally missed the point.

Nice troll, Dizzy.

And who were those senior politicians Guido was mates with in the 80s?

Hardly a troll. I am merely pointing the absurdity of Sunny's argument. As for Guido, ask him yourself, in the 80s I was at school.

Dizzy, I thought your post about wanking was probably the most intelligent thing I've seen on LC so far

Ahh, septicisle is commenting here as well.

He who refutes arguments with such irresistible logic as "Chas:short answer fuck off"

I got bored reading the comments from all the humourless, abusive left wingers.

A bloke I know who knew another bloke who was senior in government and who knew some other senior goverment civil service type blokes once said to my mate at a party just as Gordon got power that they knew he was NBG and a bit weird and that he was doomed to be useless.

I suspect that it hardly needs a conspiracy for many right wing bloggers to start producing a malicious narrative. All CCHQ and their friends need to do is feed them with a little tit bit - and the right wing bloggers will just reproduce it with added malice (and often without checking even the basic facts). Most right wing bloggers work pretty much on autopilot when it comes to malice.

Time and time again it is possible to see CCHQ themes being given their first airing in the right wing blogs. The best one I saw was when Guido was able to tell us all about the theme and content of Cameron's "unscripted" Conference speech in advance of its delivery - go and look if you don't believe me.

Many, quite rightly, say that their should not be unattributable lobby briefings. Perhaps right wing bloggers might wish to extend the same principal to their leaks and feeds from CCHQ?? And I would have no problem with the same rule applying across the political spectrum either - claiming that Party HQs should be protected as anonymous sources is not a very strong argument.

CCHQ doesn't feed anything to me that I am aware of. I'm not even on their press release mailing list.
