Reminds me a bit of an old (1980s) BBC Micro game called UK PLC. But it's a sign of how times have changed that in that game, you would be re-elected if you governed well, and if the economy was strong and if taxes were low and everybody had jobs. This game seems to be purely about perceptions, marketing and spin. When oh when will the age of spin be over?
I have tried out the demo and ran out of patience. I think one needs to read the manual. Way back lost there was a PC game called Shadow President wherein one had to bring about world peace, democracy etc. I found that universal free trade was a short cut to victory.

Is the example of Kinnock chosen to indicate that this is fantasy ?

Shadow President is now abandonware and can be downloaded for nowt.
where did u get that scenario from, i have the game and the kinnock vs thatcher scenario isn't on the official site??
