There is something very strange going on it Crewe isn't there? Take a look at Tamsin Dunwoody's campaign website. The dominant meme, as has been widely reported, if "Tory Boy Timpson", and the website doesn't even tame things down. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so negative.
What is most astounding is this charge that Edward Timpson lives in a mansion. Where does Tamsin live? Oh that's right she lives in an ever bigger mansion. Even more so, this whole "toff" angle is rather ludicrous is it not from someone who is actually called Moyra Tamsin Dunwoody-Kneafsey, who's grandmother was Baroness Phillips?
One of the key things about class warfare against the so-called "toff" is of course hereditary privilege. The Left hates it, and yet here we have a woman that is acting like she is the heir to the seat. If you don't believe that her line is to play on her family name then just take a look at her website.
More than once she appears to be ending her leaflets with the line: "Tamsin Dunwoody will always stand up for you and your family, she’s a Dunwoody after all."

And you will see that her story about dropping Kneafsey from her name in 2005 when she split from her husband and not to exploit her mother's name in the C&N by-election is not true. Current electoral Roll, telephone directory and business directory shows she still uses Dunwoody-Kneafsey.
Google Earth and info in the telephone directory, will remove all doubts about her being "well heeled" or a Crewe Local
their whole website is out of date and a laughing stock, http://www.creweandnantwichlabour.org.uk/report asks who'll you be voting for in the May local elections, I thought they were over and lost!
Dizzy
Your link to Tamsin's website misses out the entry page which is one of the most hateful and negative pages I have seen for ages.
"Do you want a Tory con man or a Dunwoody" replete with a top hat and a bow tie.
Tamsin deserves to lose, and lose big time. Sadly I think that the poll will be a close one as this type of negative campaigning plays to a sinister streak in society.
See, tsk, you go wrong right from the start, in looking for honesty from these... people.
Nice post.
Class war is so 20th century.
It's pointless. You are what you are and who cares anyway? Only a few old fashioned people...
People simply aren't interested in 'class war' in 2008 - they're interested in the issues.
But Toffs know how to lead. Gordon - the antithesis of a toff - has no idea.
Except... maybe now the toffs are not landowners and city slickers but the political classes. They would certainly like to think they are a cut above the rest of us.
Nepotism is only kin deep
Pot, kettle, black.
I fail to understand - the whole of Crewe must be illiterate or only read the Daily Mirror.
One of the most stupid people I ever knew had a favourite phrase - "It's an insult to my intelligence!" - whenever someone underestimated his brainpower (tricky to manage, but achievable). Surely, everyone in Crewe, even die-hard Labour supporters, must be mumbling "It's an insult to my intelligence!" by now?
I can only conclude that, for whatever arcane reason, they want to lose the seat...
If Labour do get in, it will prove once and for all that some regions of the country would vote for a Labour candidate if it were a gerbil in a cage, as long as it was wearing a flat 'at.
HOw can someone called Tamsin accuse others of being posh?
Well there's an absolutely enormous gap between what constitutes being 'posh' and having (or in the case of her parents in this case, trying to to make others think they have) 'class'. It's how people behave that demonstrates whether someones possesses these qualities, not sharing a name with others who may do so. As she herself has said she is a Dunwoody after all - her mother may have had certain sterling qualities, but she was no angel. There is this awful desire not to speak honestly about dead people - just think back to the utter madness that occurred when George Best (or Diana, Princess of Wales) died.
There is a long history of 'toffs' (so-called or real) professing to be Socialists - whether it be a Tony Benn, a Tony Blair or other more 'exotic' lowlife such as Lenin, Che, Pol Pot, 'Uncle' Ho. Need I go on?
Whilst I hope she doesn't win, all this name-calling will look pretty silly if she does.
Grandma was a Lady-in-Waiting no less. That must be where the family learnt about hereditary privilege.
If a listing in Burke's Peerage decides who the toff is. Then Tamsin beats Edward 1 - 0
Heard about the whinge that Dunwoody's team is having about Tamsin driving around in a Bentley? They forgot where the cars are made .... Also NuLab must be very careful about commenting about candidates backgrounds: Dunwoody's grandfather (Morgan Phillips) perjured hmself in court.
Personally, I've never seen such shameless electioneering. However friends in Scotland are saying this is how Labour campaigned in Scotland during the last GE... not that it did them any good there.
Your readers might like to take a look at this Guardian piece particularly notice the huge numbers of comments below it.
The views of Labour's own supporters on Labourhome aren't any less critical either: here & here
No wonder Brown don't dare visit Crewe and Nantwich.
The rumour is that Brown will be in Crewe tomorrow. That'll be the by-election in the bag for the Tories, then...
If brown goes to Crewe on Monday can someone please phone the emergency services just before literally anything could go wrong
they all lie and are not to be trusted my call is get out there and call a vote of no confidence.
