Absurdity of the Day

It's in all the papers. If you're not from the EU and you're a footballer, you won't be able to play in the Premier League unless you pass a basic English language test. These sort of policies are absurd for two reasons.

Firstly the whole EU and non-EU distinction is crackers. Second, the manager of England doesn't even speak English (he is from the EU though so that's OK!).

I thought the points system was supposed to encourage highly skilled people - like world class footballers!

And what if other countries responded in the same way...? All the retired cons on the Costa Brava learning Spanish? Every aid worker in Sudan speaking Arabic? Every financial journalist in Shanghai in Hong Kong speaking mandarin?

The EU / non-EU thing just reflects the EU single market in labour - aren't free markets what Conservatives believe in?

Will that be not considered discriminatory, considering that most British footballers would have difficulty in passing a basic English language test?

You seem to be a computer whiz Dizzy, can you help Downing Street out? Their England's Day Link has never worked since the day they put it up.

According to the Grauniad:

"A vacancy will have to be advertised for at least two weeks (one week in the case of jobs with salaries above £40,000) before a migrant can be recruited from outside Europe."

... which makes a bit of a nonsense of the transfer deadline, and it shows which clubs are in the market.

To the Anonymous Cunt 09:00 - if you think the EU is a 'free market' then you are sadly fucking mistaken (and a cunt).

I'm a strong believer in the four foreigner's rule (or as its known in Scotland as the seven numpties rule)

We will not be able to nuture young footballers if they find that the majority of teams in the Premier Leagues just buy in a foreigner.

No English or Scottish team should be allowed to present a first team sheet without a minimum of seven players holding British citizenship. Ditto German teams should have a minimum number of seven Germans etc.

I would not even make an exception to other EU(SSR)nationals

Am glad the papers have got it down to the lowest common denominator.

Lib Lab Con's immigration policy is discriminatory and racist.

And why is Damian Green parading around saying that the Tories would control immigration when they gang bang the EU social model?

And why is Russia playing in the European league?

So many questions.

Capello speaks English, he just prefers to use a translator at press conferences in case he uses a wrong word

Dizzy, you have to believe that this EU/nonEU thing is really serious. Too many of them are getting in illegally. The tougher visa approval scheme, stronger emphasis on stopping non-EU people being employed illegally, the skilled worker scheme, introduction ASAP of the eResident card (an ID card for resident third country nationals) ASAP. Not just here, but in other EU countries as well.

We shouldn't allow foreign footballers in at all, as there aer plenty of British citizens who would do their jobs at the prevailing wage rate, but instead should allow in people whose skills this country actually needs.

Here's another absurdity, Labour blaming women candidates for losing their seats in the north-east.
