Bloggers do not do this at their computer

Via Comment Central and El Reg we have the joy of the Office of Government Commerce's new logo.

Here is how it is meant to be viewed incidentally.

I do not do what the vertical view says at my computer ever - although I do have glasses. Clearly all the people involved in its design were woman or eunuchs.

After the fuss about the Progressive Governance Summit logo, you would have thought they would have learnt.

Maybe the best way to avoid such pitfalls is to simply stop wasting money on new slogans and logos?

No more media faux pas and no waste of money. Everyone wins (well, unless you are a graphics designer).

Even viewed the correct way, having seen the vertical version, it does look a tad obscene.
I suppose they might be trying to tell us something?

Just imagine getting paid £100 grand to tell the government what you think of them.

Genius!

the vertical one does look like a snow man with an erection having a wank. There's no getting away from that.

I wonder if it was the same person who designed this, the "Progressive" Government swasitka and the "Lisa Simpson" Olympics logo. I hope so, because I'd like to buy him (or her) a drink. Three bullseyes like that can't be a coincidence, surely?

Incidentally, what the hell is the Office of Government Commerce, apart from an oxymoron?

This wasn't done by the same people who gave us Lisa Simpson giving a blow-job as the Olympic logo, was it?

Reminiscent of the 1980s BT logo which could similarly have some interesting interpretations when rotated through 90 degrees.

wtf is the OGC for anyway

'The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) is an office of HM Treasury, responsible for improving value for money by driving up standards and capability in procurement, from commodities buying to the delivery of major capital projects, maximising the effective use of 60% of Government spending and a £30 billion property estate.'

Translation: The wankers who caused massive public sector inflation (Hence the logo).

Lovers of less than well thought out logos might enjoy B3ta's phallic logo contest from some time back.

Work safe, as it were.

Actually OGC tries to find out if you follow due process in public procurement, even if its "garbage in, garbage out". But they sometimes get the chance to do more, and that happened over the ID Card Project, where in 2006 they asked if it was going to be useful and decided "Not a lot" (so it was changed).

This says something Freudian about the people who work in this quango

OGC also publish and develop PRINCE2 which is a method for managing projects - sadly one which most of government seem to ignore.
