This morning, Iain took umbrage with Nadine Dorries about her dislike of the Cathrine Tate Christmas Special and all the swearing. Nadine has now responded to Iain and suggests that Iain "can’t really think Catherine Tate is in the same ball park as Ricky Gervais, can he?". What surprised me here is that Nadine says "the funniest comedy is entirely void of bad language and overt sexual innuendo" and then mentions Ricky Gervais as a shining example.
Presumably she has not seen his stand up where he explains to the audience how he mistook Schindler's List for a porno because the review on the case said he needed a box of tissues nearby. He then informs his audience that he still managed to masturbate to it anyway. He pauses for a while and says "Shower scene" whilst doing that Gervais look.
Still think Gervais is the height of comic genius against the crassly offensive Catherine Tate and her use of the word "fuck" Nadine, honestly?
Update: For the record, I laughed my head off when I heard the Schindler's List thing. Although the first half of it was apparently stolen from Roy Chubby Brown so I have been told. I am a sick puppy to be sure.

If it was somebody relatively sane, I could appreciate the attention afforded...
Much as I'm not a fan of Catherine Tate and don't find her all that funny, it's not because of the swearing and innuendo. Nadine's just being the sort of prude who will still watch a car crash in slow motion- can't bear to turn away and delights in being shocked by what they're seeing.
Nadine should find the power button on her PC now, lest she accidentally type in www.b3ta.com in to her browser...
Whilst The Office is still the single best programme, ever, by miles.. Ricky Gervais / David Brent / Andy Millman seem to have mixed into one person. It is actually quite strange how he uses the exact same sounds / tones / mannerisms, whether doing stand up, in The Office, or Extras.
Which is relevant.

For me the bottom line is that Gervais is funny, while Tate just isn't.
I think you've overdone the comparison a bit - she was comparing the Catherine Tate show with The Office Christmas Party, not Gervais' stand-ups.
The Office seems to the type of programme you like or hate, I just don't find it funny so only seen clips from it. Similarly I do not find Ricky Gervais and get irritated at the way all the luvvie hype him up. The Diana concert showed up just how bad he is.
For me the bottom line is that Gervais is funny, while Tate just isn't.
Fair enough, but I don't think that's the point at all. Personally, I'd rather rather eat my own faeces on Big Brother that endure the alleged comic stylings of Ms. Tate or Mr. Gervais.
The point is that nobody is forcing me to do so. And call me an old crank, but my idea of 'family values' means Christmas festivities don't revolve around the television, children are sent to Befordshire well before 10.30pm, and I don't masochistically force myself to watch things I find distasteful just so I have something to be outraged over.
Now if Ms. Tate is going to be effing and blinding her way through the next series of Doctor Who - which presumably will retain its Saturday early evening slot - then I'll have a problem.
