A sour comment from "mike". The extract was, of course, only a small part of the excellent speech, which is certainly worth reading in full. The fundamental changes forced on this country by the new constitution / treaty are shocking in their scale and extent.
Anonymous said...A sour comment from "mike". This plonker has made a fortune with his enjoyable after dinner speeches. This plonker was also responsible for the biggest defeat in the history of the the Tory Party, ever ! Cameron may yet eclipse him on that great achievement however in a couple of years or so. We'll have a good laugh at that too, sour indeed, bah.
Actually Mike he's not 'paid to win elections'. He's paid to represent his constituency and does so rather well.
And if you don't understand that humour is one of the most devastating political weapons you know nothing of politics.
If people will pay good money to hear Hague speak then that's their prerogative. It's also indicative of his wit and ability. But anyway, take a look at some of the early - and very fine - speeches by Socialist politicians. Look at Wilson or Calaghan or Bevan or Foot in their prime. I may not agree with everything they said - but I was certainly impressed by the power of their oratory and wit.
And that is a damn sight more than I have been by anything that the stuttering bovine mendacious Brown has uttered.
Time for a little light research with your Ovaltine, Mike.

Gordon ain't beaten yet, lets see if you get the joke when baldy and the toff blow it for you yet again next time round. The voters don't want oratory and wit they want jobs and houses. That's why in a couple of years or so, they will go once again for Gordon and the gang. You see he has already given them the stuff they want, and that's what counts. Still as long as we can continue to laugh at your mob I'll certainly enjoy their witty banter as they glower across the chamber at yet another Labour Government.

The full speech is well worth listening to. I wonder if the PM will have been taking names of those who dared to laugh at Hague.
But he's not paid to make folk laugh, he's paid to win elections. That is unfortunately something he has not been able to do, now that's funny.

David Milliband is probably already working on a face saving exit for Gordon to clear the decks in time for the next election.
Even better to listen to than to read. O that we had more parliamentarians of that quality!
