Do you want fries with that?

My apologies for no posts for a whole day, strange I know, but I went out Saturday night and did not get back until Sunday lunchtime, then had to go out again, and now there will be another week of limited post as I continue with Jury service.

Now I know that many people will be excited about Alan Johnson and the fact that yet another minister in Brown's Cabinet has been found to be acting in a seemingly dodgy ways. Playing loose and fast with the law is certainly becoming endemic, and I imagine Blair is laughing to himself quite a lot. After all, he got out at the right time.

However, the best news story today is not Johnson but the this one in the The Times about how McDonalds are going to offer an A-level equivalent qualification in burger flipping. OH alright then, so it's not burger flipping but basic burger bar management but still, the thought of someone doing their CV and noting that they got an A Level from McDonalds is thoroughly bleak don't you think?

The certificate will obviously be issued by the University of Chipping Sodbury (or maybe Bury-sod-chipping)

I'd place greater value on the MacDonalds A-level (in doing something real) than in an A-level in Meedja Studies from any of the existing Boards.

The so-called Gold Standard was de-based a long time ago. Get over it.

Not as bleak as the prospect of some of the products of our wonderful comprehensive school education failing an A level from McDonalds...

Is this true or is someone telling "Whoppers" ?

Will your MacAlevel be welcomed when you improve and seek a job at Starbucks?

Well, McDonalds has its own university in the US, so I don't see why not.

Alan Johnson appears to be an honest and decent man. He would be a better PM than Brown.

McDonalds should STOP paying poverty wages and shut up about their A-levels.

I seriously like the idea - we finally have a proper, private qualifications which are available to the rest of us.

I really don't think these are going to be chasing people to pass them - the irony is that in 50 years, the MCD Degree might well be a sign of quality - not like a Dept of Education funded degree!

Funnily enough Jerome Kerviel was trained as a complete banker by Burger King.
