Point of trivial interest but apparently in thelast 19 months the fire alarm in Portcullis House (every expensive "state of the art" building) has gone off 28 times when it has not been a drill.
Out of the 28 a mere three were actually fires, eleven were due to the "state of the art system" failing. Four were caused by "engineers" who were actually working on the system (presumably to fix the cause of 11 failures), and five were caused by contractors doing random maintenance work.
Yes I know that doesn't add up to 28. That's because five of the alrms were caused by accidental actuations of the alarms. I now have visions of MPs scrapping with each other and falling on the "Break Glass Here" signs. I wonder if John Prescott punched one in anger?
