Another rider falls out of the race to replace Prescott

Whatever is going on in the race to succeed John Prescott in Hull East? The Labour Party candidates for selections are dropping like flies. Last week, Chris Leslie found himself embroiled in the funding scandal that goes to the very top of the Labour Party. Amsuingly, his Labour Party CV for selection says that he dislikes the fact that there "still remain vested interested" in Britain.

Meanwhile, the popular local Hull councillor, Stephen Bayes, former Director of Kingston Communications and Humberside Airport, has been arrested and bailed in Northern Ireland on suspicion of gross indecency charges along with "other offences". I have been led to believe that those "other offences" are, shall we say, slightly distasteful. Iroincally he is a former Chair of the local Police Authority.

So, with Chris Leslie's chances scuppered, and now Stephen Bayes too that leaves just two front runners. David Prescott, son of John, and former councillor Gary Wareing. If one were truly conspiratorial they might wonder if Hull East was such a desired seat that someone somewhere was trying to narrow the field? The favourite now has to be Prezza Jr, but then again, might they go for the on the ground former councillor instead?

One thing is for sure, the seat is fast becoming a poisoned chalice for those that have applied for it. Which one will fall from grace next? Ironically they now have two frontrunners who have the same surname as MPs who are either stepping down or been deselected.

I wonder if it's in the small print of the Labour Party membership form that you have to commit an offence if you want to reach the top of government?

If he's anything like his dad I hope Prezza Jr gets the job. Tales oh his Pa's exploits have brought us all huge merriment and did so much damage to the Government, the prospect of the family tradition continuing fills mine eyes with tears of joy!

Only a true cynic would postulate that a Prescott might be running a dirty tricks campaign surely...

Yours,

A true cynic.

Doesn't Stephen Bayes 'experiences' make him the perfect replacement?

It will be interesting to see how the Hull Daily Mail covers the story if Prescott Jr gets it. He once went there for work experience but they refused to give him a staff job on the grounds of being as thick as pigshit.
